We all knew it anyway but it turns out that tea really is good for your health. A pile of recent evidence points to the fact that tea is a health giving liquid and is even better for you than drinking water...Result!
The old myth goes that tea is dehydrating and we must drink water to balance any caffeine containing drink we consume. This myth has been turned on its head by The European Journal of Clinical Nutrition which believes that tea not only hydrates the body but also protects the tea drinker from heart disease and cancer. This is not really news to those of us who has been aware of the health benefits of drinking tea for years but it is good to see conventional publications admitting the fact.
The Japanese and Chinese have touted the health benefits of green tea for centuries and its is this beverage in particular that is thought to play a role in the exceptionally high life expectancy of the people of Okinawa.
All teas, green and white teas in particular, contain very high levels of antioxidant compounds known as polyphenols which have been shown to help prevent cell damage. Consuming high numbers of antioxidants in combination with a good diet and plenty of exercise is known to be the best way to reduce your chances of getting heart disease and certain cancers.
It seems there has never been a better reason to make a few Bodum teapots full of your favorite blend every day, safe in the knowledge that you are taking a positive step in ensuring your future good health of yourself and your friends.
